Putting the brakes on climate change
At TMD Friction, our environmental considerations are focused on having a positive
impact on climate change, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions and waste
through investment in renewable energy usage, product development, and working with our
supply chain partners.

01. Emissions and energy usage
By 2030, our goal is to be totally powered by renewable energy as well as reducing natural gas use by 20%, and we’re already providing our facilities with certified renewable electricity. We’re further reviewing our current technologies to further reduce our energy usage by 10% by 2024, and by 2030 we’re committed to having 80% of the emissions of core products calculated to sum the product carbon footprint (PCF) over the different stages of its life cycle. In our logistics we’ll reduce carbon emissions by 10% by 2040.

02. Product development
We’re striving to reduce VOC emissions during the assembly of our brake pads. We’ll do this by developing new adhesive technologies, and it will remove the equivalent CO2e of a small petrol car driving over 1 million kilometres per year. We’ll continue our drive to eliminate ecologically damaging substances in our brakes: we’ve already gone a long way to eliminate copper, and aim to be copper-free in 2025. We’re also aiming to reduce landfill waste by 20% by 2025, by reclaiming material from our production processes.

03. Supply chain
We’ve invested globally in software systems that help us monitor our supply chain to ensure sustainability compliance in line with our goals. We’ll be 100% ethically sourcing by 2025. We’re also aiming to reduce carbon emissions in our logistics by 10% by 2040, by evaluating transportation routes and optimizing our supply chain. Finally, we’re making our packaging 100% recyclable by 2040. This will involve redesigning this packaging so that it can be recycled.
